IHHS - Guidance Department
The Guidance Department at Indian Hills is designed to help you with your academic, vocational, and personal problems. If you are having trouble in any of the above areas, or have any questions concerning your high school career, don’t hesitate to visit your counselor. Your counselor will discuss matters of importance to you that will help ensure a successful four years at Indian Hills. Appointment request forms are available on the counter in the Guidance Office.
A few of the other services that you may expect are the issuance of working papers, processing of transcripts for college, preparation of recommendations when needed, and the placing of students in full-time or part-time employment. The department maintains a library of college catalogs and a Career Resource Center for your use. It is hoped that the following descriptions will help you to use these facilities.
Resource Center: The Guidance Resource Center is available to students for career and college research. In addition to a variety of computer software designed to assist in college and career selection, the Resource Center has books and pamphlets on various career areas. Information on the Armed Services is also available. A CD-ROM terminal also provides access to occupational information. Financial aid information is also available.
Students are encouraged to use the Resource Center during study periods, lunch periods, and after school. Counselors will be happy to assist you in becoming familiar with the materials, or you are welcome to come in on your own. Catalog Library: One of the most popular services of the Guidance Department Is the college catalog and college video library. There are over 1500 catalogs, pamphlets, brochures, applications, and reference materials concerning universities, colleges, junior colleges, prep schools, and business schools from all over the United States. All students are invited to use this library. We only ask that the catalogs be returned in one day so that the materials will always be available. Many students have commented that they get a great deal of information from these sources, which are vital aids in college decision-making and career planning.
