Judy Sullivan joined the Board in January of 2020.  She sits on the Finance and Policy Committees for the Board, and is the Board's liaison to the Oakland Borough Council.  A resident of Oakland for 15 years, she serves the local community in various public capacities, including her work in renovating the historic Van Allen House in Oakland, and in her volunteer effort as a pro bono attorney to individuals as well as groups, such as the Ramapough Lenape Indian Nation.

A corporate and commercial litigation lawyer practicing in New York and New Jersey, she is also a professor at several local universities and colleges, teaching law and humanities courses.  She graduated from Rutgers University with high honors, and Seton Hall University Law School with high honors.  Of late, she was recently made a Fulbright Scholar Specialist (only 400 in the nation) and a Public Scholar for the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

Ms. Sullivan believes the emotional integrity of our students is of the highest of priorities, as is transparency for Board operation and governance, and meaningful public participation.  She is a strong proponent of democracy incubation at schools and often contributes ideas and goals for our students' future readiness based on her experiences as an international lawyer.

Fun Fact:  Ms. Sullivan has five siblings, 24 nieces and nephews, and many grandnephews and grandnieces.  She became an Aunt at 10 years old and treasures her 91 year old father, who can be spotted at District events.   She enjoys hiking, genealogy, gardening, instrumental music and singing.
