For Team USA sled hockey star Jack Wallace, every moment on the ice counts as “bonus time.” The two-time Paralympic gold medalist and four-time world champion grew up in Franklin Lakes and graduated from Indian Hills High School in 2016.

Jack Wallace enjoyed playing football and lacrosse but it was hockey that captured his imagination. The Wallace family never missed a New Jersey Devils game, fueling a dream to one day skate under the bright lights of the NHL.

A tragic boating accident while on vacation in Lake George dashed that dream and resulted in the loss of Wallace’s right leg above the knee. His miraculous survival of such a traumatic injury can largely be attributed to a series of life-saving actions by his father and a distress call answered by a retired sheriff.

Recovery took time as expected, and there was the additional journey Wallace faced in confronting the physical reality of his injury.  A summer at Maine-based, Camp No Limits a non-profit organization that supports children and their families following limb loss helped bridge that gap. It was there Wallace discovered sled hockey. Finding a way to participate in the sport he loved served to reignite his passion for hockey. It put him back on the ice and eventually led him to the US Paralympic team.

Today, Wallace’s size and speed - a rare combination - earned him a reputation as a dynamic defensemen. In fact he received the title “Best Defenseman” at both the 2022 Paralympic Games and the 2024. World Para Ice Hockey Championship.

Wallace is currently preparing for the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, where the U.S. squad aims for a fifth consecutive gold medal. Now a veteran leader, he views the team as a "tight-knit brotherhood," training full-time with a rigor that rivals any professional athlete.

The Paralympic sled hockey tournament will take place from March 7–15, 2026, at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan, Italy. Jack Wallace and Team USA, the four-time defending gold medalists, will compete in Group A during the preliminary rounds.
