On December 4th and 5th, the Model United Nations teams from Ramapo and Indian Hills joined together to host POMUN III, the district’s annual practice conference for new and returning members. This yearly event marks the start of the academic season for both clubs and provides students with a focused, collaborative environment to develop and refine their skills before attending larger conferences later in the year. Model UN challenges students to step into the roles of global delegates, researching and representing the perspectives of their assigned nations. This year’s conference welcomed 50 students across three committees (SOCHUM, WHO, and DISEC) where delegates engaged in complex discussions on mental health initiatives, the rise of artificial intelligence, and criminal justice reform.
Planning POMUN III required tremendous dedication from the student leadership teams, who researched their committees’ topics, produced comprehensive topic guides, prepared all of the operational materials, and facilitated hours of substantive debate. This year’s chairs (Leia Gomez, Mia Narula, Finn McCarthy, Jasper Ho, Irdas Shehu, Luke D'Altilio, Julia Coppo, and Maddie Kincel) led with professionalism and created an experience that was truly remarkable for all involved.

By the conference’s end, students collaborated to draft thoughtful resolutions that reflected diplomacy, creativity, and a genuine commitment to international problem-solving. Beyond the formal discussions, the laughter during dinner breaks, the camaraderie between committee sessions, and the shared excitement as awards were announced captured the spirit of what makes Model UN so meaningful. The decorum, enthusiasm, and pride demonstrated by our students throughout POMUN III not only elevated the event but also reflected the very best of what Ramapo Indian Hills has to offer.
