"The Indian Hills Academic Decathlon team competed in the 2018 USAD Nationals Competition held in Frisco, TX from April 18-21, representing the state of New Jersey as a Division IV team. Please congratulate all the students who competed-- Harrison Chen, Sorab Taneja, Tara Haymon, Nigel DaSilva, Morgan Ford, Megan Swenson, Jonathan Forsyth, Andrew Fox, and Leo Han. The team had a tremendous run this season, and their trip to Nationals was the culmination of months of hard work and dedication.

The USAD Nationals Competition included top teams from across the country and around the world, each competing in an 11-event contest. Students needed to complete seven written tests (art, economics, literature, mathematics, music, science, and social science), write an essay, deliver prepared and impromptu speeches, and participate in an interview. The competition concluded with a Super Quiz relay, in which each team competed against the others in real time.

The team concluded a great run for the 2017-2018 season by bringing back some gold to Indian Hills! They've all done a tremendous job this year and are eager to return to Nationals again next season.
  • Nigel DaSilva (Scholastic), our team captain, won a gold medal in art, and silver medals in social science, math, and science.
  • Jonathan Forsyth (Varsity) won gold medals in interview and speech, and a bronze medal in economics.
  • Andrew Fox (Varsity) won bronze medals in social science and speech.
  • Sorab Taneja (Honors) won a silver medal in math.
  • Morgan Ford (Scholastic) won a silver medal in essay and a bronze medal in interview.
  • Megan Swenson (Scholastic) won a silver medal in math.
The team would not have made it this far without the support of their friends and family as well as the hard work and dedication of their teachers. Above all, the team would like to thank the following people, without whom their participation in this competition would not be possible: Cherylin Roeser, Lisa Acquaire, Norm Forsyth, Jamal Rahaman, Laurie Paravati, Catherine Hom, William Ford, AJ Loewrigkeit, Melina Kervandjian, Stacey Levin, Peter Durkin, Ingrid Pimley, Deval Patel, Lisa Laurence, Nina Androski, Janice Nestor, Michele Hynes, Celia Riggio, Carole Linkiewicz, Carol Paravati, Regina Calcagno, Rachel Neuman, Sue Butler, Ivy Urdan, Kathleen McGuire, Teresa Madonna, Ali and Bob Chen, Judy Chan, Kevin Chan, Patricia Swenson, Uma Taneja, Kirsten DaSilva, Saundra Nugent, Daria Blanco, Dawn Thompson, Maxine House, Debra Gibbons, Rita M.
