Board Response to Article on RIH Schools

Dear RIH members:

On behalf of the Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education, I feel it is important to get some information out to you in light of a northjersey.com article series that was published this week. The articles primarily highlight the excellent sports teams at Ramapo and Indian Hills and how our student choice policy comes into play.

Regarding some of the “hypotheses” that were presented on how the District might change, it is important for you to know that the Board has committees that address all aspects of our District, including considerations about policies such as high school choice. There has been no discussion regarding changing the policy as it currently exists, and most certainly, no consideration about creating an Oakland High School.

One of the board’s 2019-2020 goals is to institute a long-range strategic plan to address the shifts in the student population across the District and the impact that this will have on future enrollment, as well as to ensure that our students are getting the best educational experience possible.

Thank you for your continued interest in our schools. Best,

John Kinney
