Message From the Interim Superintendent

Dear RIH Families:

On August 13, Governor Murphy signed Executive Order 175 permitting districts to delay the implementation of in-person instruction to allow time and flexibility to ensure buildings are safe and ready to open.  Also, taking the guidance from the New Jersey Board of Health to reduce the possibility of transmission by reducing the congregating of large groups and despite all best efforts and implementation of appropriate actions we had to change our plan from communal dining to exclude lunch time from the schedule.

Having shared this, the RIH Board of Education approved my recommendation to alter our Return to Learning Plan.  Beginning on September 8th, the District will open with full remote instruction following the normal instructional day of 7:35 AM to 2:39 PM.  Teachers will teach their students from their classrooms and student instruction will be conducted remotely.  On September 24th, the District will transition to a hybrid learning environment with three cohorts of students during phase one. Each morning, one of the three cohorts will participate in their classes through face-to-face instruction while the other two cohorts participate through remote instruction.  These cohorts will rotate through the face-to-face and remote instructional settings for the morning classes. Over time our plan calls for transitioning from three to two cohorts depending on current circumstances.

We will be following each morning session with a dismissal allowing students to have lunch at home as part of the midday break. All students will then participate in additional remote learning in the afternoon.  For those students who need additional support, extra help will also be provided in the afternoon.  Additional information and details will be sent out by the end of next week.  Stay Safe…

Respectfully,

Bruce Watson

Interim Superintendent
