First Offense in a classroom

One neutral whole-class or individual reminder to power off the device and store it out of sight. Immediate compliance restores the routine.

No discipline or referral.

Second Offense in the same classroom

Teacher directs the student to power off the device, store it out of sight, and addresses the matter privately with the student.

Teacher self-records the warning and notifies the parent/guardian of the warning given to the student. 

Third and/or subsequent Offense(s) in the same class

Teacher submits a referral via the District’s Student Data System to the Assistant Principal. 

Administration secures the *powered-off, password-protected device for the remainder of the day and imposes an appropriate response.  

*It is the student’s responsibility to turn off the internet-enabled device and have the internet-enabled device password protected to prevent any unauthorized use of the internet-enabled device before turning the internet-enabled device over to the school administrator/designee.

Parent/guardian is notified by school administration.

Device is returned to student at dismissal unless administration requires parent/guardian pickup.  

Fourth Offense of this policy (regardless of classroom), repeated pattern of defiance or refusal to comply with policy

Administration secures the *powered-off, password-protected device for the remainder of the day. 

Administrative conference and progressive response, which may include 

• a daily check-in/storage plan, 

• parent conference, 

• loss of relevant privileges, 

• detention, or 

• other Code-authorized consequence.

*It is the student’s responsibility to turn off the internet-enabled device and have the internet-enabled device password protected to prevent any unauthorized use of the internet-enabled device before turning the internet-enabled device  over to the school administrator/designee.

Administration documents the response and conditions for phone return and discipline. 

Parent is notified of this Fourth Offense in writing and it is documented that any further violation will result in a mandatory daily check-in/storage plan or loss of onsite phone privileges.  

Parent sign off/confirmation of receipt of this notice is required.  

Parent pickup of the phone may be required.

Further or serious violation

Administration secures the *powered-off, password-protected device for the remainder of the day. 

Any student violating this policy more than four times during a school year shall, for the remainder of the school year, be prohibited from bringing an  internet-enabled device on school grounds during the school day,
