Dear Ramapo Indian Hills Community,

It is with great respect and enthusiasm that I step into the role of Superintendent of the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District. My professional practice is guided by a strong work ethic and high values of integrity. These qualities, combined with a positive presence, passionate leadership, and insightful academic perspective, will shape my role as an active and meaningful participant in the future vision of our district. I am eager to work with the Board, administration, faculty, staff, students and community-at-large to introduce and implement practices that will build a strong foundation for effective instruction, student achievement, and a healthy school climate that supports the social, emotional, and academic development of our students.

Our approach will be rooted in collaboration, ensuring that each action plan is crafted and executed with a focus on achieving our district’s goals. By fostering a cooperative and structured environment, we will work together to enhance student outcomes and support a thriving school community.

I recognize that high-performing districts often encounter complex issues, and I view these challenges as opportunities for growth. Drawing from Simon Sinek’s Start With Why and Malcolm Gladwell’s Talking to Strangers, I am committed to addressing controversial topics by providing not only information but also a deep understanding of diverse perspectives, aiming for resolution and progress. Quite often, it is my experience as a mother of four that further informs my communication approach, guiding me to consider what parents would want to know and hear.

While recent years have brought significant changes to NJ school districts, including staff turnover, new policies, and evolving learning standards, I remain focused on the core values that unite us. Despite any conflicts, our collective interest in student success and shared commitment to achievement remain paramount.

Together with the Board, administration, staff, and the entire school community, I am excited to contribute to the values at the heart of Ramapo Indian Hills. I look forward to sparking students’ creativity and individuality, enhancing their knowledge and talents, and fostering the sincere pride inherent in Braves and Raiders.

Wishing you wonderful weeks as summer wraps up, and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Yours in Education,

Shauna C. DeMarco
