Ramapo Indian Hills School District Celebrates Jewish American Heritage Month with Rabbi Chanoch Kaplan

In celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month, the Ramapo Indian Hills School District welcomed Rabbi Chanoch Kaplan as a guest speaker on May 23. Rabbi Kaplan, who serves as the Rabbi and Executive Director at Chabad of NW Bergen County in Franklin Lakes, engaged students with an insightful discussion about Jewish culture, family and tradition.

Rabbi Kaplan provided an overview of the Jewish calendar system and major holidays, and explained the significance of the 613 “mitzvot,” or commandments, in Jewish life. He talked of Judaism as both a culture and a faith, highlighting the diversity within the Jewish community.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain a deeper understanding of the rich cultural and religious heritage that is an integral part of our diverse community," said Joe DelBuono, District Supervisor of Social Studies. "Rabbi Kaplan's presentation not only educated but also inspired our students to appreciate the differences and commonalities within the Jewish faith."

The event was organized by the district's Social Studies department as part of an ongoing initiative to actively involve students with various members of the FLOW community, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultural and religious backgrounds.
