Dear Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School Parents/Guardians:
The District will be administering the Start Strong assessments at both Indian Hills and Ramapo High Schools on September 28, 29, and 30. The Start Strong assessments are designed to provide data to teachers about the level and types of support that their students may need throughout the upcoming school year.
The Start Strong assessments will be administered on the following dates and times at both Indian Hills and Ramapo High Schools:
Wednesday, September 28, 2022: Science - ALL 9th and 12th grade students
Thursday, September 29, 2022- Mathematics - ALL students in Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2
Friday, September 30, 2023 - English - ALL 9th and 10th grade students
Students Must Bring:
- ●Fully charged laptop
- ●Pencils with eraser
- ●A grade level appropriate calculator for science (Sept 28) and math (Sept 29). If students do not have a grade level appropriate calculator, an online calculator will be available in the testing environment.
- ○Science Grade 9 - Scientific Calculator, only.
- ○Science Grade 12 - Graphing Calculator, only.
- ○Algebra 1 and Geometry - Scientific Calculator, only.
- ○Algebra 2 - Graphing Calculator, only.
- ●Leisure reading material for after testing. The content of the leisure reading material cannot be related to the testing subject or content.
Transportation
Students who are testing shall report to their bus stop at the regularly scheduled time. This will assure arrival to school for the regular start time of the day (7:35 AM).
Students who are not testing will need to be at their regular bus stop 1 hour and 50 minutes after the normal bus pick-up time for the second bus run. This will assure their arrival to school by 9:05 AM.
Students who drive to school should plan their arrival times according to their testing status.

Please refer to the 2022-2023 District Assessment Schedule for additional information about the Start Strong Assessments as well as information about the other assessments that will be administered throughout the school year. Parents/guardians of students in the graduating classes of 2023 through 2025 should also take note of the recently updated NJDOE high school graduation assessment requirements found here and linked on the District Assessment Schedule.
Please note that all students are required to participate in state testing and are encouraged to do their best. Make-up testing will be held during the week of October 3rd according to each building’s schedule.
